unpopulär from rebellion to trend
Rejection has turned to acceptance. Individualisation and differentiation have become a social trend. The sell out and commercialisation of a former, small, homogeneous subculture is already at an advanced stage. The project unpopulär starts at this point in the evolution of skateboarding.
unpopulär stands for the attempt at making a visual study of a social phenomenon. Through the strict application of the principles of Luhmanns Theory unpopulär presents the viewer a kind of cross-section of the social system of skateboarding. To achieve this unpopulär uses a graphic symbol language on the one hand and photographic images on the other. This is complemented by copy and interviews with people from diverse parts of the scene as well as people outside the scene.
