Urbin Initiative / Smart bin for cities in the developing world

The Urbin initiative connects residents in the developing world to their local informal scrap shop using IoT enabled smart bins to divert post-consumer plastic waste from entering our oceans and landfills. Kabadiwalla Connect has deployed 30 Urbins in 30 locations in the region of Mylapore, which has a population of 200,000 people and is within 3km radius of the Indian Ocean. These Urbins are integrated with Kabadiwalla Connect’s technology platform to provide an on-demand pick up service. Till date, Urbins have helped recycle 18 tons of post-consumer plastic waste, provided additional revenue to 2 scrap shops and educated over 20,000 people.
