Hub Sample transportation / Patient sample transportation

Hub Sample transportation
Hub Sample transportation

Uganda faced severe challenges with transportation of patient samples to testing laboratories. Central Public Health Laboratories (Ministry of Health) innovated the Hub sample transport system to overcome this challenge.

The Hub sample transport system is a collection of local networks called hubs located at health facilities offering laboratory services and also acting as conduits through which samples pass. Sample transportation relies on bike riders.

This system is now recommended by WHO and PEPFAR for use in other resource-limited countries. It won an African Award in 2014; and transports HIV, TB, Hepatitis B, Sickle cell samples, etc
