Community-based red panda conservation / Improved technology to improve habitat.

Unsustainable herding practices are causing the fragmentation and degradation of red panda habitat in the Eastern Himalayas. Red Panda Network is working to alleviate this threat through awareness, skill-building, sustainable livelihood and improved technology initiatives. We will work with herders in improving traditional herding sheds to reduce timber demand for ongoing maintenance, as well as replace traditional herding sheds with portable canvas tents. We will also provide improved cooking stoves which reduce firewood consumption and help to decrease respiratory disorders, caused by inhalation of harmful smoke, among herders.
