The Camiguin Sea Glass Project / Livelihood program, youth & women, sea glass

The project involves empowering 60 women and 120 youth through livelihood and skills training programs on jewelry making and embroidery using sea glasses. Trashed by man, and polished by nature, sea glasses or reversed gems, are pieces of broken glasses or tableware that have been polished by the ocean and sand for years until its edges are rounded off and its appearance becomes frosted. They are crafted into fine jewelry and are marketed through a CSO, Komunidad sa Baibai (Community by the Shore). Seaglass Jewelry is now gaining much attention in the commercial scene and its sales have greatly improved the lives of the women and youth.
