Kuchinate is an income-generation-socio-psychological project aimed at empowering African asylum seeking women living in Tel Aviv who have found themselves in vulnerable situations. The project assists approximately 100 women, most who are victims of torture in the Sinai camps. Most of them are single mothers between the ages of 18 and 60. The therapeutic aspect of the Kuchinate workshops gives the participants the opportunity to bond with other women, recover from post trauma, and seek out assistance for comping with mental health difficulties. The women work crocheting baskets and carpets, all while supporting each other.
