Against the backdrop of Beijing’s solemn heritage, VUE adds a light-hearted element that transcends Chinese luxury in a whimsical way. The ensemble of six quasi-historic buildings from the 1950’s have been adaptively reused into an 80-room boutique hotel with a café, restaurant and rooftop bar. The result is unapologetically forward-looking with a culturally inspired twist. The narrative imagines that the lake’s original animal inhabitants, the foxes, magically transform to feature as whimsical art installations: a fresh approach to conventional Chinese opulence.
