Millions of people across the world live in a state of acute environmental crisis caused by the lack of access to safe and usable water resources, because of natural disasters, socio-economic conditions and conflicts. Working at the intersection of machine learning and chemical-free purification, Green the Gene developed extremely low-cost, completely energy self-sufficient, portable, point-of-use water purification devices with on-device sensors and machine learning algorithms to ensure water safety. Initiated in 2017, this project has led to deployment of 8000 devices which are helping 40,000+ people in rural Tanzania get safe water access.
