This project targets 2000 small-scale sweet orange farmers and women laborers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh state in South India. For the first time in the country, we are creating 15 - 20% additional income per household from dropped small oranges that otherwise would go to waste. We procure aborted small sweet oranges from farmers and women labor workers, sun-dry them and sell dried small oranges sized below 1.8 cm to pharmaceutical companies in Europe. These small sweet oranges are rich in Hesperidin, a bioflavonoid which possesses pharmaceutical properties. The project is run by eight women self-help groups, adding to their empowerment.
