Vita a not for profit agency has used Social Impact investment loans to repair 400 water points in Eritrea, impacting on 120,000 people. The Project now provides 306 million litres clean water and 12 million hours saved by women and children collecting water annually. Project has immediate impact on reducing incidence of water borne disease from 80% to 8%.
Carbon mitigation from not having to boil water was independently measured and validated by Gold Standard and sold as carbon offsets to repay investors. Surplus income is then used to maintain water points for seven years. This is an innovative win-win solution.
