Composta São Paulo / Home Composting in Sao Paulo

Composta São Paulo was the largest project of home composting ever undertaken in Brazil and Latam. The project directly impacted 7,030 citizens of the city of São Paulo. The project delivered composter boxes to 2,006 families and carried out a thorough survey with them to understand the participants' acceptance and learning, mapping the main difficulties and benefits of home compost practice, in order to generate data for the debate of a public policy to encourage the decentralized treatment of household organic waste (which account for more than 50% of household waste). Together, these families recicle up 4 tons of organic waste per day.
