In many cases, modern media corporations have turned their backs on the ethics of journalism. Rather than fulfil their true social mandate to hold those in power accountable, they focus on sensational news items, interview victims for dramatic reaction, and fill columns with salacious details. As a public tool of society, the media no longer monitors the government and defends the rights of citizens. Rather, they molest and follow celebrities to generate clickbait and profits. As part of a machine for making money, corporate journalists have turned their weapons – cameras, microphones and pens – on society.
