City design is as yet centered on cars, not people. This causes elevated levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in many European cities. Although these levels can cause respiratory diseases and violate EU law, the population appears vastly unaware of the invisible and tasteless health threat. Hence, our nation-wide web-app and light installations at selected local sites visualize real-time NO2-concentrations for awareness and empowerment to self-protection of the population. If the NO2-concentration exceeds the legal EU value, website background/LEDs of the light installations turn red. If values stay below the threshold, the lights turn green.
