This low-rise minimalist concrete structure is almost dwarfed by a much larger and taller structure immediately next to it. In order to clearly set it apart and imbue it with its own design statement, the architects created a single penetrating broad glass opening. The interior designers used vertically and horizontally intersected wooden grills to dampen and diffuse the light in the expansive reception area. A single line of bamboo stalks planted in a pebble bed adds an extra diffusing layer. The end result is a highly distinguished building that invites...respect and interest.
