Signal handle / Smart handle

Signal handle

One of the problems of an aging society is Kodokushi, the Japanese word for ‘lonely death’, when people die alone and remain undiscovered for a long period. Decomposing bodies can present health hazards and there are just not enough social workers to visit these people regularly. In this solution, the toilet door handle is equipped with a signal transmitter to automatically send a signal every time the toilet is used. If there is no signal sent for a specific period of time, someone will go out to check on that person. This can not only save lives, but also the indignity of a ‘lonely death’.

Even though society might not yet be ready to install a handle like this, it will be very relevant for the future.
We are so very happy to get an iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD!!! We hope that our solution can contribute to solving the problem of Kodokushi. Receiving the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD is the best motivation to grow up as a good designer. Thank you!!
