The design of barrier-free facilities reflects the contemporarysocial concern of the disabled and the elderly, providing convenience and security.
The original intention of the design derives from the difficulty of standing up due to the elderly’s leg muscle weakness. Thisdesign is hoped to contribute to the real self-care of these people.
The principle of hydraulic rods is applied in the design—the pressure caused by the shift of center of gravity of the upper limb pulls the toilet lid, producing vertical thrust to the user’s hips to help the users to stand up easily and independently.
