Hearing Glass / Navigation aid

Hearing Glass
Hearing Glass

The Hearing Glass is a guidance and navigation aid for the blind and visually impaired.
It consists of a radar sensor and laser, which allows an approximate recognition of the environment.
The device translates the environmental information into acoustic stimuli which are transmitted to the middle ear via bone conduction. The user hears obstacles as different sounds that vary in volume, pitch and recurrence. An implemented navigation system is operated per speech input. Its extensive data base of potential obstacles allows for a barrier-free route planning. Parameters like sensitivity and overall volume can be regulated via a remote control.
