Exhibition design

The permanent exhibition "Blessed are those who believe?" opened at the Cistercian Monastery of Zwettl in Lower Austria in 2002. It covers an area of more than 2,000 m2 in the vaults of the monastery and focuses on the miracles of Jesus Christ. A complex, infrared-operated audio-tour guides the visitors through the exhibition and provides background information on the individual installations and exhibits. The first section of "Blessed are those who believe?" originally dealt with the history of the monastery. This part was replaced in 2004 by the exhibition "The dream of the wise men". The new integrated exhibition covering the Nibelungen and Erec fragments discovered recently in Zwettl is in the form of a forest. 2.5 metre-high columns of varying diameters create a forest that conceals the display cases and their treasures. Both the Nibelungen as well as the Arthur myth and the history of the monastery have parallels: similar dream descriptions populate the stories. These dream sequences are shown using staggered, semi-transparent ribbons of fabric to link the various thematic areas.
