For the elderly living in aging buildings across Taiwan, the lack of elevators limits their mobility, and hence their desire to leave their apartment complexes. Secluded in their apartments, the elderly become socially isolated and face pains and degeneration caused from a lack of exercise. We propose Climbing Helpmate, an ergonomic and assistive device that allows its user to maneuver through stairways with greater stability and comfort. Climbing Helpmate allows the user to exert more strength from their upper body, thereby lessening the pressure on the knees and other leg joints.
