The Neue Pinakothek in Munich featured a special exhibition on two paintings by Edouard Manet: “Le déjeuner” and “Un bar aux Folies-Bergère”. The central experience was the concentrated comparative viewing of the two works in a space that has been emptied of all other paintings and objects expressly for their sake. We abstracted this process for the purpose of our communication and transferred it to the conditions of access and perception in a public space. This resulted in a series of surfaces, which, set up at 90° angles to one another, form a zigzag outline and are alternately covered by segments from the paintings. Along the installation one could view the corresponding pictorial excerpts immediately side by side. We transferred the idea of folding and division to the other communication measures.
