Human trafficking is harboring or transferring people by controlling them through violence, threats, the abuse of power, or by the giving or receiving of payments. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime estimates that at the same time 2.5 million people all around the world are victims of human trafficking, this study also shows that up to 27 million people are enslaved, exceeding the peak of the slave trade in the 18th and 19th century.
