Infrared Detection Safety Airbag –
This idea was inspired by frequent accidents in Taiwan caused by large commercial vehicles such as gravel or freight trucks. Many deaths or injuries resulted from these vehicles due to their immense size and unforgiving blind spots for the truck drivers. These fatal accidents often result in the victim being rolled under the trucks and killed by truck wheels.
Our idea is to utilize infrared sensors deployed on the bumpers of the truck. The sensors will alarm the truck driver of potential pedestrian, bicycler or motorcyclist within close proximity. If someone were to be struck by the bumper of the truck, airbags open.
