Audi A3 Sportback / Passenger car

Audi A3 Sportback
Audi A3 Sportback

The A3 Sportback represents a completely new phenomenon: the unique fusion of a roof line that is suggestive of a coupé with the utility of an Avant. Created for drivers with a feel for exclusive ambience and a weakness for contemporary products of the highest quality, who consider sportiness a component of their lifestyle, but are unwilling to forgo the practical benefits of a five-door car. This set of requirements is met by the A3 Sportback's innovative styling. The vehicle’s distinctive single-frame grille emblematizes its dynamic potential, as do the sharply profiled character lines on the side. The split taillights widen the rear end of the car, focusing the vibrant body on the road. The newly designed interior makes for an exciting, sporty atmosphere. Combined with a clear focus on precision and detail, a successful balance has been struck between sportiness and elegance.

From a very early stage, Audi focused on developing a sporty look for station wagons, which combine a sedan with an efficient boot, van-style. While many manufacturers optimized their car A(nd) vans or T(ransport) models for optimal length in the boot area, with the 1977 Audi 100 C2, Audi presented an Avant with a coupé-style roof. This design decreased the boot space for professional use (tool storage and the like), but it provided family fathers with a more convenient luggage compartment than did a sedan. With the 1983 Audi 100 C3, the Avant established itself as a sporty high-end station wagon.
