Winter solstice is a big day in traditional Chinese society. Southern Mandarin Chinese people are used to celebrating the coming of midwinter festival with a sweet hot dessert named tangyuan, which carries the meaning of “reunion” in this coldest day of a year.
Nevertheless, with global warming and radical climate changes, winter solstice turned out to be warm this year.
Thus, I used the image of the melting tangyuans to symbolize the unusual global weather changes. One among the tangyuans is our mother Earth. If we failed to protect it and worsened global warming, we will never have the chance to reunion with our family.
