The oceans nowadays contain 150 million tons of marine debris mainly spread over five
garbage patches. Toxic material in the garbage threatens animals and humans alike. Concept Manta is aiming to tackle the problem and make it economically attractive. Floating litter is filtered out of the water with a kind of rake, put into an endlessliner (bag) and then ejected while being attached to a transmitter-buoy. Passing ships can easily spot these bags, load it on board and sell it at the next harbour. The Concept Manta would therefore open up new markets and take a pioneering role at recycling marine debris.
