“Alice no Sertão das Maravilhas” is based on the classic novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” written by Lewis Carrol, in 1865. The story follows the original structure of Carroll’s novel, as well as the illustrations, which presents the same compositions. Besides that all characters, scenary and situations are placed into a fantastic universe inside the brazilian northeastern backlands. For instance, the Griphon became a ‘Carcarasno’- a mithological being that was born from the fusion of a southern caracara and a donkey. The Mad Hatter is equivalent to the “Cangaceiro Aluado”, a kind of “bandolero” from Brazil’s northeast.
