HANSGROHE DESIGN PRIZE by iF

Stingray combines design and usability in a futuristic way, using digital technology. The main inspiration behind this design was the stingray fish, which can adapt to any surface. The Stingray tap follows the user’s gestures in real time and provides water only where it’s needed. This is a very efficient way of water usage. Hexagon sensors on the bottom are shaped to spread the water flow, and they can also detect the proximity of objects. On the top of the tap, there is a large display that shows which hexagon panels are used. In manual mode the display is used to control the water settings only by proximity gestures, allowing the Stingray mixer tap to stay clean for a longer time than usual.

A conventional water faucet – completely redesigned. A fully new type of motion control was developed; it operates the water jets to create an exciting new user experience. A very appealing idea that made a very big impression on us.
Jury Statement
There were a lot of entries to the HANSGROHE DESIGN PRIZE by iF, so when I found out that I was one of the five winners my excitement was even bigger. For the first few days I could hardly believe this was really happening. This is my first design award and, for me, it represents a huge confirmation that I am on the right track in my career, doing what I love: designing products.
