The idea of capturing the energy you produce from walking is nothing new. The innovation hinges upon an idea called electrowetting, in which a droplet of a conductive liquid is placed on an electrode and is deformed by the application of electric charge. U Power Shoes insole slides into your usual footwear and charges a small battery as you walk, generating power both between steps and on impact. Once that battery is charged, users can plug it into their smartphone, from which it will extend like a USB dongle. U Power Shoes could be built with USB ports, so any device could be plugged in and charged from the energy gathered while walking.
