Flashovers often occur when there is a fire and it is hard to predict when they will happen. Many firefighters suffer serious injuries or even die due to flashovers. There are two main factors causing flashovers: high temperatures and great amounts of combustible gas. “Flashover Alert ” consists of an infrared detector fixed to the helmet. When firefighters are about to advance into areas with high temperatures and combustible gas, the helmet's visor will change color to alert them.
