The Forgotten / Kindergarten design

The Forgotten
The Forgotten

The design proposal was that of an Early Childhood Development Centre with a public interface and horticulture production attached, which caters for the Forgotten networks of the informal settlement of Phomolong (Mamelodi, RSA), namely the elderly dependents and children which do not take part in the daily exodus of the working class. An exploration of how architecture could become a catalyst for the creation of a collective memory through the creation of place for the Forgotten networks as well as architecture acting as a mediator between culture, tradition and education. The material choices of Bamboo and Rammed earth were proposed.
