Helena / Pitcher and Glasses Set

Discipline: Product

Discipline: Product

Upcycling is a proven method for reducing waste in landfills. The concept behind Helena is to bring the used glass back to the table and give it a new life, exploiting the exceptional hygienic qualities of glass and adding a personal and friendly approach based on the concept of sharing. Helena is born from simple cuts to a bottle of wine, using the top and a bottom in addition to the bottle's spout. The center piece is made from certified chestnut wood and natural cork, allowing for an airtight seal between the wood and the glass. The wood from the inside of the center piece is reused as coasters for glasses made from beer bottles.

Helena is a innovative project because of it's proposal: recycling glass and for the beautiful final shape. It is elegant and eco-friendly. The high degree of elaboration is shown through the quality of the pitcher: it really doesn't look like a recycled wine bottle!
Jury Statement
Opening the iF email was gratifying, at first I didn't understand that I had won and I had to read the message a couple of times to make sure. Winning the iF STUDENT DESIGN AWARD 2016 has been a wonderful experience and I consider it an excellent opportunity to show the result of the work of young talents.
