A smartphone has become an extremely popular mobile digital device in our daily life, with nearly 2 billions users in the world in 2015. Although a smartphone has brought so many conveniences to people, most of older adults face difficulties when they are using a smartphone, particularly in the use of typing and reading messages. A smartphone is not smart for the elderly. This design project ‘6-gon’ aims to address this problem by re-designing a smartphone virtual keyboard specifically for the elderly. The 6-gon was developed via a user-centred design approach, which contains 5 significant design features.
