Skin cancer is the world number one cancer type. 1 out of 5 people will suffer from it during lifetime.
Skin cancer can be detected by optical inspection by a doctor, but the people tend to skip the yearly screening because of costs and effort.
SkinScan is a device for a quick and easy skin cancer home inspection. The earlier the cancer is detected, the higher are the chances to survive.
The check is done by visual inspection first. A 3D scanner detects cancerous melanomas by checking visual criteria. If a suspicious area is detected it is checked by electrical impedance spectroscopy, a method to check skin tissue structure.
