Southern bluefin tuna are classified as ‘critically endangered’ on the IUCN’s Red List of threatened species.
Population levels are down to around 5% of original levels, mainly to satisfy demand for sushi and sashimi.
People may think it doesn’t quite matter to continue eating bluefin tuna, but actually, because of our selfishness, it had to face an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild, so we hope people can STOP eating them, and give bluefin tuna a fighting chance at a future.
