The idea was to create an educational space in a country whose population is very young due to the genocide and is lacking a certain depth of educational services. Our goals were Valency – creating esteem for education Strengthening – a beacon vis-a-vis rural migration Identity – creating a communal space Familiarity – regional materials and colors Roots – integrating the local people Lasting legacy – enduring beauty and commitment Existing resources – traditional courtyard buildings Craftsmanship – stone upon stone joined precisely to create a whole Sustainability – locally available materials Simplifying – storage masse and natural ventilation
Specific architecture is used to create a built-up space that is not only a sensitive reflection of the local traditions, uses resources wisely and is sustainable, but also a space for people to learn, broaden their horizons and develop. It creates new points of reference for community life, taking into account the need for functional tables and social concerns. The ECN is bright spot, for Rwanda in particular, a ray of hope for more humanitarian development and a sign of change and optimism. The project sends its message far beyond the borders of Nyanza and has all the potential of developing into a landmark. Sensational.
