In the 21st century, health is determined by and contributes to a broad range of social trends. More and more people are living and working in cities. Lifestyles and family patterns are changing; technology is evolving faster than ever before. One of the biggest social transformations is population aging. Soon, older adults will outnumber children and there will be more elderly people than ever before. This rapid change means many significant adjustments need to be made in the healthcare industry, especially emergency medicine.
