Snap it up! focuses on the development of a structural system for realizing free form lightweight structures based on planar thin sheet material. Using sheet material, 2D fabrication techniques and elastic bending, manufacturing is simplified and material can be saved compared to 3D molding methods. The project incorporates biomimetics in the design, taking snap-through mechanisms in nature as role model and employing its geometric advantages, aiming for a smart and simple assembly technique based on a developed computational design tool. The system has the ability of morphological differentiation based on internal and external influences.
