By using the "Soft-Kill-Option" method (SKO) the bench vise was developed in a new way of designing products. The method determines most necessary structural optimizations for an object taking into consideration its applied load. The result is characterized by significant material savings, enhanced durabilitiy as well as weight and cost reduction. In this context, the SKO method represents not only a fascinating extension but also diversification of already known methods of product development and answers the question how a designer could use and benefit from these "natural" form suggestions.
