Umbrella Revolution / poster

Umbrella Revolution

Hong Kong Occupy Central, also known as the Umbrella Movement. The pro-democracy protesters demanded universal suffrage. In the beginning of the protests, Hong Kong police officers used tear gas to evacuate demonstrators, while protesters carried umbrellas to protect themselves from attacks. Through the lens of media outlets, people across the world are able to witness images mixed with open umbrellas and smoke. Inspired by Hong Kong’s civil disobedience, this project combined the Chinese characters for “Hong Kong (香港)” with the smoke from the tear gas as to highlight the tension in Hong Kong.
