The Cardboard Cathedral was designed by Pritzker Prize laureate Shigeru Ban and constructed using his signature paper tubes in response to devastating earthquakes that hit Christchurch, New Zealand. The book records this landmark cathedral in sections with use of print processes and paper stocks that reflect the distinct materiality and sensibilities of the building. The three main parts consists of a written essay on the conception of the building, a visual essay of documentary photography of the building’s unique construction printed on kraft paper with overprinted layers of white and black, and color plates revealing its final form.
