“Cool Breeze” is an air conditioner remote control shaped like a traditional Chinese fan. When feeling hot, people will automatically wave something like a fan to create a cool breeze. Thus, this remote control detects the action of fanning as a desire to switch the air conditioner on. The fan acts as an interface between the user and the air conditioner. Spreading “Cool Breeze” into a fan shape activates the air conditioner. The air conditioner will also automatically adjust the temperature, the fan and the fan direction according to the surrounding temperature and the strength and frequency with which the fan is waved.
"The design concept nicely integrates two related artifacts (fan and air conditioner). The interaction with the fan is sophisticated and has potential to be used as a controller. This was well picked up by the design. It can be foldable and comfortable for making gestures. These behavioral features can be an elegant and natural mapping for a remote controller of air conditioners. I like the fact the behavior of using the fan is implicitly adopted in the design. There is also a potential in creating further gesture and behavioral interactions, although not fully described in the poster. Therefore, I wish to see more about the interaction scenarios and the technical feasibility."
