In China, soup is usually served when it is very hot. We usually prefer this way because it feels cosy. But often the soup served is too hot for one to drink and it sometime takes a lot of time for it to cool down.
This spoon can make the cooling time shorter and the situation more controllable to diners. Its metal body transmits heat rapidly from soup to its upper part. And when the diner stirs the soup with this spoon, air flows through the holes on the upper part of the spoon and carries the heat away.
