MARS 2025 COMMUNICATOR / Communication device

This project was carried out in collaboration with NASA under the assumption of a manned Mission to Mars in 2025. This 3-years lasting mission is by far the most extreme mission taken on by mankind

The biggest problems are a 22-minute delay (one way) to send and receive data from earth and the extreme monotony.

The crew (6 people) has to function as an autonomous unit since ground control feedback can not be provided. Extremly experienced astronauts provided the crucial input to develop this concept.

The Mars 2025 Communicator was developed to make astronauts work life more efficient, private life more comfortable and to keep them sane.
