Namma Cycle PBS / Public Bicycle Sharing

Namma Cycle PBS
Namma Cycle PBS

Namma Cycle is a public bicycling initiative in Bangalore, with the aim of increasing connectivity and creating environmentally friendly modes of public transportation. The name is
inspired from ‘namma’, which means ‘ours’ in Kannada, and signifies the concept of shared ownership.

The pilot initiative ran for a year and the shortcomings in the system were identified. Thus, the need to design a bicycle for the system came to light. Surveys were done to find user perceptions and a bicycle geometry was developed which was ideal for a wide range of Indian Anthropometric Dimensions.
