Window to the East. John Thomson’s journeys to Formosa, China and Southeast Asia from 1865 to 1871. Thomson’s photographic works opened a window into the Oriental world for Westerners back then. In our design, there is also a window in the cover page of each chapter showing readers the beauty of the East captured via Thomson’s camera. The cover of the catalog is decorated with a white ribbon as if the catalog itself was a gift. The design is to reveal the look of old style journal of travelers from old times. This design also symbolizes that John Thomson’s work is a valuable gift of human histories and memories for future generations.
