Water base woodcut printing and Chinese calligraphy are art forms of profound cultural traditions. While the former mirrors the diverse aspects of folk culture, the latter records the social aspirations and personal ruminations of the literati elite. By migrating woodcut prints and Chinese calligraphy to the field of graphic design, I wish that my posters may attain the ideal of a nationalized design language, that is, of a visual expression with cultural and artistic awareness. With Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Käthe Kollwitz my precursors, who are the staunch paragons of design for art's sake, I follow their steps with my prints and brush.
