In interdisciplinary collaboration with the DLR and two university hospitals, an ergonomic and process-optimized workstation for robotically-assisted surgery was designed. By using user-oriented design methods, the users objectives, wishes and needs were found out. Throughout the design process approaches were evaluated directly with engineers and surgeons. Using robot systems in minimally invasive surgery is a quite new field of application which privides a couple of advantages compared to traditional techniques: The gain in precision and the minimized physical stress significantly increase the quality of the surgical intervention.
