Behind cloister walls, reduction has been elevated to a principle. Reflection upon the essential thus forms the core of the new permanent exhibition design of the Stiftung Kloster Dalheim, LWL-Landesmuseum für Klosterkultur, the Westphalian state museum for monastic culture. Sparingly employed modern installations stand on more than 3,000 m² of exhibition space, providing an exciting contrast to what is basically a late medieval structure. In keeping with traditional monastic virtues such as humility and modesty, a few carefully chosen materials have been used, generally leaving traces of workmanship visible.
