Lotus is based on differentiated lifestyles and technologies of the near future and aims to preserve foods longer by maintaining freshness and preventing loss of nutrients. Different food types require different atmospheres to sustain their freshness. The technology at the center of the project, which is predicted to be very common in the future, involves creating the best environment for a particular food by combining oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Lotus also gives information about the condition of the food that it is preserving, its nutritional information, and weekly consumption habits of users by storing and analyzing data.
