IFA stands for the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, often called the Berlin Radio Show in English. Since it was first held in 1924, over 90 years ago, the IFA has moved past being just a radio trade show. It is one of the oldest industrial trade fairs in the world, and one of the largest consumer electronics exhibitions worldwide.
Interesting speakers and innovations have marked the Berlin Radio Show since the beginning: in 1930, Alfred Einstein gave a brief speech to crowds, over the radio naturally. Explore the following pages for a brief history of IFA 'firsts', along with a selection of award-winning products from the 2017 iF DESIGN AWARD.
